Secret Project {the reveal}

August 17, 2011 Archieves, The Press 4 Comments

A few weeks ago I posted the “Secret Project” with some shots of  a friend’s new winery taking shape.

At the time, the space was still in a raw state, holes in the ground, bare walls, cut concrete. In terms of photographing a new winery, one might say there was not much to see, no barrels, no equipment, no bottles. But the components were there and perhaps they were more significant than the sum of their parts.

I returned a few weeks later to find a different scene, a more complete one. The holes were patched, walls were painted, fresh concrete was drying. There was more to see now, there was a winery where before there was only a plan. There were barrels, equipment, and yes, a few bottles too. Still, it was in the individual components I found the most inspired images.

So who is this winery? For the answer, you will have to watch until the end (nearly the end anyway).

Suffice it to say, I have found a lot of inspiration in the work of the winemaker and his wife, as well as the brilliant wines.

So to you, secret winemaker, thank you. May your new home in Santa Barbara treat you well. We are expecting good things from you and trust that you will not let us down.

Sigur Rós is one of the most brilliant bands in the World and deserve to be listened to LOUD, so turn it up!

In addition to the LOUD Sigur Rós , you would be much benefited by watching this in full screen mode, so make it BIG!

It is best viewed in 1089p.

    Wow, what a great video! Looks like a lot of hard work you put into this!

    Looks like a pretty cool place! Since my ‘good friend” is “homies” with the winemakers…I’m hoping to try a bottle or two;-)

    BTW, I love Schott Zwiesel glassware…nice choice!

    The Winemaker Matthias Pippig and his Wife Jamie Kinser have impeccable taste, from home, to winery, to wine. They are not the kind of people to leave anything to chance, for example, their solid red shovels and brooms, it all fits in with the over-all style. I love their stem-ware as well. The glasses were all set-up for a trade event a few days after I was there, so I took advantage of the arrangement to look like I have an eye for design.

    Since your good friend is homies, maybe he will bring a bottle to Vegas for some proper discussion!

    I think Matthias and Jamie would very much like what you do by the way.

    Labor of love Jason, thanks for the comments.

Bonny Doon: Day of the Doon IX {Photo Essay}

We have grown rather accustomed to long trips for short stays, so much so that a 500 mile weekend is not such a big deal anymore. There are a lot of events we are invited to and we can only attend a few of them. But when Randall Graham asks you to attend, you attend. […]
